Savebase for Academics

Bookmark manager for academics

Keep course reading, grant background and scholarship connected.

Academic reading serves several jobs at once: developing a paper, preparing a seminar and following new work in your field. Savebase helps academics organize the web references around those jobs. Keep publisher links, public talks and background commentary with notes about relevance, then move formal citation work into your reference manager.

From save to useful reference

A workflow for academics

RSS subscriptions ↗

Keep a selective field-reading queue

Subscribe to journal, publisher or research-group RSS and Atom feeds where available. Assign tags for topic and a folder for new reading. The queue collects feed items; it does not grant access to paywalled papers or determine whether a publication is methodologically sound.

Notes ↗

Record the role a source plays

Note whether a reference contributes a method, a finding, a teaching example or a counterargument. Add a DOI or citation detail manually when useful. Search those notes across project folders while keeping the distinction between an abstract you screened and a paper you actually read.

Video transcripts ↗

Make recorded talks easier to revisit

Request transcripts for supported saved videos and search the explanation behind a method or result. Keep a note identifying the question it answers. Confirm the interpretation in the original talk or paper before using it in teaching or scholarly writing.

Choose the plan for your workflow

RSS subscriptions, rule-based automation, webhooks, Notion and Google Sheets integrations, media backup and video transcripts require an eligible paid plan. Media backup covers eligible Instagram, Facebook, Threads and TikTok saves, with backup enabled and media successfully fetched.

Common questions from academics

Does Savebase replace Zotero or a reference manager?

No. Savebase organizes web links, notes and supported video references. It does not format citations or maintain a scholarly bibliography. Use it for discovery and reading context alongside your reference manager for formal citation work.

Can Savebase read paywalled academic papers?

Saving a publisher URL does not bypass access restrictions or guarantee capture of the paper's full text. Keep your institutional access workflow and attach your own reading notes to the reference after reviewing the material.
