Bookmark Manager for Edge: Favorites Guide

Microsoft Edge calls bookmarks Favorites. Its built-in manager can organize website shortcuts, while a bookmark manager add-on can give project research a separate home across web links and supported social sources. Savebase has an official Edge Add-ons listing and keeps saved references in your account library with folders, tags and notes.
There is also a timely reason to review your Edge research workflow: Microsoft retired Collections starting with Edge 149. This guide explains where Favorites live, what the Collections transition preserves, and how to set up a useful Savebase library without assuming a migration carries over every note or image.
Where is the bookmark manager in Microsoft Edge?
Open Settings and more, choose Favorites, open its More options menu and select Open favorites page. On desktop, entering edge://favorites in the address bar also takes you to Favorites.
Use folders for subjects or projects, rename vague entries and arrange your regular destinations on the Favorites bar. Microsoft's Favorites organization guide explains sorting and managing saved sites.
If you only need quick links within Edge, this may be enough. A separate account library becomes useful when a work project combines an ordinary article, a LinkedIn post and a recorded explanation, or when you want to return to research from another browser.
Edge Collections was retired: what should you keep?
Microsoft says Collections is no longer available starting with Edge version 149, released June 4, 2026. Its transition guidance describes Move to Favorites and Export Your Data options. Moving to Favorites preserves saved webpage URLs in folders; it does not move images, notes or other non-page items. See Microsoft's Collections retirement guidance.
That distinction matters for research. A useful comparison may depend on the note beside a link, not just the link itself. Inspect any preserved collection data and keep an export where available before assuming your project survived the move intact. Availability can depend on your account and installed version, so follow the options actually shown in Edge.
Savebase does not directly import every Edge Collections object. If you have moved page URLs into Favorites, browser-bookmark import is a route for those links. For other collection material, retain the original record and add relevant context to bookmark notes yourself. An imported URL is not a recovered image, annotation or complete collection.
Install Savebase from the Edge Add-ons store
- Open the official Savebase Edge Add-ons listing.
- Select Get and review the installation prompt.
- Open the extension and sign in to Savebase in the Edge profile where you browse.
- Use Save Current Page for an ordinary webpage and confirm it appears in the dashboard.
- Sign in to a supported social platform in the same browser and confirm a native save reaches Savebase.
Use the dedicated Edge listing; this setup does not require installing through Chrome's store. On a work-managed computer, your organization's extension policy may control installation. Keep work and personal research in the accounts and destinations your organization permits.
For broader browser support, see extension installation. This guide describes desktop Edge setup and does not imply that the same add-on is available in every mobile environment.
Bring Edge Favorites into Savebase
Begin by keeping your original Favorites library and any exported copy. Open the Savebase extension popup and choose Import Bookmarks for a direct browser import on Free. This reads your browser bookmarks in a one-time bulk operation and flattens the folder tree inside the imported library.
If you want a small trial of direct import, use a separate browser profile with a few sample favorites. Confirm that the imported URLs open correctly, then create the project folders you need in Savebase. Do not delete the old Favorites collection simply because an import completed.
On Pro, the dashboard also accepts supported bookmark HTML files and text URL lists. A Collections data export is not automatically the same format as a bookmark HTML export. Check supported import formats and use a supported route rather than changing a filename extension to make an unrelated file appear compatible.
For file imports, reused URLs can merge tags and folder memberships, while incoming non-empty notes can replace existing notes. Keep the source export and inspect a small batch when possible. Migration quality means checking the references and their context, not just counting imported records.
An Edge research workflow that keeps the context
Suppose you are comparing three software tools. Create a Tool evaluation folder, add a subfolder for each candidate and tag references pricing, setup, limitations and decision-needed. Save product pages alongside useful LinkedIn discussions and video demonstrations.
Add a note such as: “This price applies to the annual team plan. Check the event limit before comparing it with the second option.” That note keeps the conditions of the comparison attached to the source. Use a reminder for the reference you need before the decision meeting.
Selected webpage text can also be saved through the extension's Save highlight to Savebase context-menu command. It retains the passage with its source URL; it does not leave persistent colored annotations on the original page. Read our web clipper guide for the difference between a saved link, a selected passage and a full-page capture.
Use the same reference library beyond Edge
Savebase references belong to your Savebase account. Sign in to that account in the web dashboard to revisit the project from another browser. Install the relevant extension in a supported desktop browser when you also want capture there.
This is access to the same account library, not two-way synchronization of Edge Favorites with Chrome or Firefox. New folders in Savebase are not automatically written into those browsers' native bookmark trees. Keep Edge Favorites for frequently used destinations and Savebase for annotated research if that division suits your work.
For another browsing environment, use the Chrome setup guide or Firefox setup guide.
Where transcripts and AI fit
On Pro, request transcription when a supported saved video's spoken explanation matters. A transcript can help you locate a speaker's description of a setup step or product limitation. It depends on available audio and successful processing, and it does not reproduce visual-only details.
Connect Savebase to ChatGPT or another MCP-compatible assistant on Pro to review your references. For example: “Find my saved Tool evaluation sources tagged pricing and limitations. Compare the available notes and transcripts, include source URLs and list information still missing.” The connected assistant performs the analysis from retrieved material. Savebase's MCP connection is read-only and cannot reorganize the library.
AI is optional. Folders, tags, notes and reminders support the same evaluation manually. AI Bulk Tagging is a separate on-demand Pro workflow for untagged saves, with suggestions you review. See MCP setup before planning an AI-assisted workflow.
Free and Pro: choose by the research you save
Free includes unlimited ordinary web links, up to 100 social posts from any two supported social platforms, five folders, manual tags, notes, per-post reminders, JSON export and direct browser-bookmark import. Pro adds all 11 social platforms, unlimited social posts and folders, dashboard file imports, requested transcripts and advanced integrations. See current plans and limits.
Saving a webpage URL does not archive the whole page. Eligible social media backup is a Pro feature that must be enabled and successfully fetch the media. JSON export includes saved records and organization, not media files or transcripts. Keep those distinctions in your migration plan if preservation is the main requirement.
Frequently asked questions
Where are bookmarks in Edge?
Edge calls them Favorites. Open Settings and more, choose Favorites, then use More options to open the Favorites page. On desktop, you can also enter edge://favorites in the address bar.
Is there an official Savebase add-on for Edge?
Yes. Savebase has a listing in Microsoft Edge Add-ons. Install from that listing, sign in to Savebase and test a saved webpage before importing an existing Favorites library.
Can Savebase import Edge Collections directly?
Savebase does not promise a complete Edge Collections import. Page URLs moved to Favorites can be brought in through browser-bookmark import. Keep notes, images and other collection data separately and use supported import formats for links.
Does Savebase sync Edge Favorites to Chrome?
No. Savebase imports references into its own account library, which you can access through the web dashboard in another browser. It does not continuously synchronize or rewrite the native Favorites and bookmark trees across browsers.
What should I use after Edge Collections?
Favorites can hold website shortcuts. Savebase is useful when the project also needs supported social sources, notes, tags and optional transcripts. Check what your existing collection contains before choosing a replacement, especially if it includes non-page material.
Start with one real decision
Install the Savebase Edge add-on, save a few references for a current project and add the context you need to compare them. Keep the original Favorites or Collections records while testing the new library. A useful migration lets you understand your earlier research when you return to it.
