A better fit for what you save

wallabag alternatives for your saved library

wallabag centers on article reading and ownership, with self-hosted and official hosted options. Savebase is our first recommendation if your reading archive has become a mixed research collection of social posts, web links and videos. Choose a reader if the reading experience is still the priority, or a reference library if the next task is using the material.

Keep the ownership requirement visible

A self-hosted reading archive gives you an operating choice a managed social library does not. Decide whether that is essential or whether you mainly want a simpler research routine. Consider hosting and article preservation independently from search and filing convenience.

Check what should move beyond articles

A social clip or public discussion may support the same project as an article. Test whether those references should live together and how you will review them. A combined library is useful when it removes repeated context switching, not merely because it can accept another URL.

When keeping wallabag makes sense

Keep wallabag if owning an article-reading archive, self-hosting and its open ecosystem are the priorities. Savebase is a different choice for a managed, mixed-source reference library.

Moving to Savebase

Move a selected list of original article URLs

Savebase import source: Text / URL list

  1. 1

Retain your wallabag export and the article archive through your existing backup workflow.

  2. 2

Collect the original article URLs you want to move into a plain text file, one URL per line.

  3. 3

Choose Text / URL list in Savebase's import dialog, review the preview and verify that the source links are still usable.

Savebase has no dedicated wallabag archive importer. A list of article URLs does not transfer offline article bodies, annotations or the self-hosted instance.

Questions about wallabag alternatives

Does Savebase import a complete wallabag archive?

No dedicated wallabag archive importer is implemented. You can move selected original source URLs through a plain text URL list. Retain your article export and archived content separately; source links are not equivalent to stored article bodies.

Which alternative keeps self-hosting available?

Karakeep and Linkwarden are worth evaluating if you want a broader self-hosted bookmark library. Keeping wallabag is also a valid choice when article reading is the exact task. Savebase is a managed service, not a self-hosted replacement.
