Build a second brain from the references you want to use again

A second brain is useful when it helps you act on something you learned. Savebase gives your external references a place to live: articles, social posts, videos and the notes explaining why you saved them. Organize around active projects and lasting interests. Return to a small collection when you need an idea, a source or the explanation you remember hearing months ago.

Start with Free. Advanced feature availability depends on your plan.

Put your saves to work

A practical second brain workflow

Folders & tags ↗

Give knowledge a purpose

Create folders for current projects and reference areas, such as Writing, Home and Learning. Add topic tags that cross those folders rather than creating a new folder for every small idea. One source can serve several contexts. Begin with the projects you actually return to so the system grows from use instead of a complicated structure you have to maintain.

Notes ↗

Save your understanding beside the source

Write the idea in your own words and note when it could be useful. Include the original URL so you can check details later. For a video, request a Pro transcript if the spoken explanation is important. Keep a distinction between the author's point and your own takeaway; that distinction makes future retrieval more useful than a title alone.

ChatGPT plugin & MCP ↗

Bring your references into your next conversation

On Pro, use ChatGPT or an MCP-compatible assistant to find material in your library by keywords, folders and tags. Ask it to retrieve notes and available transcripts before proposing a synthesis. You can also review the folders manually. The assistant supplies another way to use your reference collection; your organizational habits do not depend on an AI session.

Optional AI workflow · Pro

A prompt to use with your saved references

Connect Savebase to ChatGPT or an MCP-compatible assistant, then adapt this prompt to your own folder and tags.

Find saved references tagged teaching and analogy. Include source links and my notes, then suggest which examples could help explain a difficult concept in a tutorial. Clearly label your suggestions.

Request video transcripts before asking about spoken content. MCP access is read-only; your assistant can retrieve available material, while library edits happen in Savebase.

What to expect from this workflow

Savebase is the external-reference part of a second brain. Keep long-form documents, private journals and task management in the tools where you already create and maintain them.

Choose the plan for your collection

Free supports the core folder, tag and note workflow. Pro adds more folders, AI Bulk Tagging, video transcripts and read-only ChatGPT/MCP access.

Questions about second brain

Can I build a second brain without AI?

Yes. Save useful references, organize them around projects and interests, and add your own takeaways. Folders, manual tags and searchable notes let you retrieve material without an AI connection. Pro AI features are optional ways to review a larger collection.

Can I export my saved knowledge?

Savebase's JSON export includes active saved records, notes, tags and folder names. It includes media URLs rather than media files and currently omits transcripts and automation settings. Keep those limits in mind when planning a portable record.
